Food forest: an alternative to forest and agricultural management
*What is a youth exchange program?
Youth exchanges bring together youth from different countries to live together and work on common projects. They are multicultural experiences where young people can participate in plays, activities, debates, role-playing games, etc. of various themes with other boys and girls from different countries in subsidized programs completely by the European Union.

In Nigrán, Galicia-Spain.
Nigrán is a town on the coast of Galicia that is highly touristic during the summer months. It is a growing rural town with highly urbanized areas.

Weather
In Nigrán, the summers are comfortable and mostly clear but there may be a lot of fog during the early morning hours. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically ranges from 16°C to 26 °C. But there can be days of 30 degrees.
- Age 18-30 years old
- Participating countries: Spain, Portugal, Hungary, Italy or Greece.
- High motivation to learn and to participate in different activities.
- To be a potential change agent.
- To be able to join us for the whole program.
- To have an interest in nature-based projects, specifically permaculture, agriculture, or forest management
During this project we will analyze the problems arising from forest management and the food system and how to seek alternatives from local projects. Specifically, we will work directly in an edible forest created on land invaded by invasive species.

- Participate in the construction of a food forest.
- Bioconstruction tasks.
- Forest reconditioning.
- Agroecology activities.
- Creation of new projects.
Established in 2019, the SOMOSTERRA cooperative exists to implement the socio-ecological transformation in the Galician territory, through educational programs, projects for local cooperation and volunteering.
Our main activities are:
- Enviromental educational programs
- Sustainability volunteer programs
- Design, creation and maintenance of school and urban gardens, edible forests and agroecological spaces.
